Explicit Preferences
- Maximize Browser Window
- If set (default), the application automatically
maximizes the browser window on startup.
- Show Maps By Default
- If set, operations that optionally show a map will have
the Map checkbox checked by default.
- Open Links and PDFs in External Windows
- If set (default), links and PDFs will open in external
browser windows. External links all open in one window, and
PDFs generated by the application all open in another
window. It may be necessary to configure your pop-up
blocker to allow Web Soil Survey to pop up these
windows.
If not set, links in the application and PDFs generated by
the application will open in this browser window, replacing
the application. You can return to Web Soil Survey using
the browser’s Back button.
- Color Scheme
- Display content in the selected color scheme. Default
is the Soil color scheme.
Implicit Preferences
These cannot be set explicitly, but are set implicitly as
described below:
- Use Category
- When you change the Use Category in the Soil Data
Explorer tab (the “View Soil Information By Use:” dropdown),
the new value is remembered as a Preference. Default is
All Uses.
- View Extent
- When you change the View Extent in the Map, the new
value is remembered as a Preference. Default is
Continental U.S.
- Text Size
- When you change text size using the text sizing buttons
on the application’s navigation link bar, the new value is
remembered as a Preference. Default is medium.
- Full Width Map
- On each of Web Soil Survey’s main tabs, if you set the
map to be shown full width, this is remembered as a
Preference.
- Pixels Per Inch
- When you calibrate Map Scale for your screen, the value
of Pixels Per Inch is remembered as a Preference.
- Screen Width
- When Screen Width changes, the Map Scale calibration
(Pixels Per Inch) becomes invalid. In order to detect this
case, the Screen Width at the time the calibration was done
is remembered as a Preference.
If Reset Defaults is pressed, all explicit and
implicit preferences are restored to their default values.
